"The Son's Room"

Anurag has a very good review of Nanni Moretti's "The Son's Room".

I love Moretti's films. I can see his films just to enjoy the use of natural sunlight. But I especially love "The Son's Room". It may be sentimental, but there is not a single frame of untruth in it. Isn't this how death comes into our homes: all too suddenly and cloaked in tragic illogicality?

To see how different film-makers handle similar situations and themes, compare this film to "In The Bedroom". (I enjoyed that film too, except for the resolution.)

Ebert's review.

Your comment about use of natural light reminds me of Pataudi's palace (now a Neemrana property and, therefore, a hotel). Somehow, maybe in the way the place is designed, there is ample natural light inside...or, enough anyway to make for beautiful shots :-)

Ghost: I am a sucker for such places, man. Where is this palace? Have you shot anything in there?

(Another must-see for dramatic natural lighting is St. Chapelle in Paris. Of course, the exquisite stained-glass windows come in the way :))

No, haven't yet but there is chance, albeit slim, that we might. Pataudi's palace is in, well, Pataudi...70-odd kilometers from Delhi, off the Delhi-Jaipur highway.
