Elevator Stories

You have heard of Hitchcock's "elevator story", right?

The other day, I was exiting an elevator and two ladies were entering it. I heard one of them say to the other: "my husband was raised by a woman who". Just then, the door closed.

I wanted to run back into the elevator and listen to the rest of that story. What kind of a woman raised that man? How was he raised? Where is he now?

Messy, unclear endings like that are so much more interesting than fully resolved ones. I *loved* how "The Sopranos" ended. In a way, it was reminiscent of Truffaut's freeze-frame in "The 400 Blows". Leave 'em guessing.

But some people don't like that. They want an answer and preferably, one meaning only. So now it's quasi-official that the Fade-out seen around the Web means Tony was whacked.

How do we know they didn't just run out of video tape?

raised by a woman who didn't believe in Tables. There were none in his house - not a desk, not a coffee table, not a dining table. He is very afraid of flat surfaces in general, now.

Roy: long time no see, buddy.

BM: :)) do I smell a fiction tag here?

raised by a woman who believed that when we die, our souls are transferred to the smallest one of those nested russian dolls. Matry-something or the other.
He now searches for the exact doll in which his mother's soul rests.
Not all the time. only occasionally. He was never very fond of her.

...raised by a woman who was 'borderline' and sucked the life out of his father and him, tried to plot his death and freaked out when his father fired his revolver through her beehive hairdo while on a drive.

MT: lol! Sounds a bit like Marge Simpson :)

BM: The Matryoshka dolls? Oooh. How very Freudian.

Keep going, keep going guys.

...was french. She tripped on bangalter, and my hubby got addicted too since the time in the womb. He brings down the house with those trippy french house 24/7...even when we are at "it"! Its weird...but I find it cool anyways!

....was a fruit-killer. She'd wait until they were in peak condition, then ruthlessly separate them from their life-giving parent.
I can't take him to the market anymore - he starts crying and begging forgiveness from strawberries.

moi: Bangalter!

??!: "begging forgiveness from strawberries" - I draw a line at gooseberries, to be honest.

Sai: Virginia? Really?

OT comment -
conv. on sexual liberation in movies between hitchcock and truffaut after seeing that '69 cult: "you know, I should have shown Janet Leigh topless in Psycho". He proceeded to fill that chink by showing leigh-hunt's elements in Frenzy. And thus (!), hollywood was liberated. Along with the countless men!

That Hitchcock story was lovely... but yours comes close too!
