But Are They Painting The Passports Brown?

Oh, Calcutta!

Yes, you can re-enact a historical event *even before* it has occurred. Come on, you intrepid Pirate-Sons of Bengal, get your miniDVs out and put this sucka up on YouTube!

Wow! I don't know whether to laugh or to cry. They made a Jatra after Dhananjay's hanging as well. Probably this time they used that experience to make it faster, even before the hanging.

By the way, you have been tagged.

Joy: But it's no different from that film that made news recently for its depiction of the president's assasination. I applaud the Jatra performers and writers for dealing with contemporary issues.

Btw, I responded to the exact same tag a few days ago :)

You can count on us Bongs for leading the way when it comes to contemporary social commentary. We're so cutting edge that we get a little ahead of ourselves at times.

Uh... it's OK then. Must have missed it as I was on vacation and out of the Blogosphere at that time.:)

As for the Jatras, they do depict contemporary issues. However, for obvious reasons, they often tend to distort the reality. Like in Dhananjay's case they made it into a romantic love story with a heroine and all. Ordinarily that isn't bad (think of the movie Titanic) but when it starts distorting the reality then it becomes ridiculous.

Excellent, exquisite triple reference! I went out looking for a lyric and never came back.
