The Who ...Well, "you know my name" is just weird... The Who have English themes now and then ("I want to play cricket on the green", etc) but I'm not sure what to call their accent. By the late '60s I think British musicians should have been sufficiently self-confident to not require Americanising themselves. And there were Brits, like Cliff Richard, who, despite Americanising themselves, never really penetrated the US market but were very successful at home.Rahul Siddharthanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04809667965184094636noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14701409.post-6583085896974328462008-11-03T07:48:00.000-05:002008-11-03T07:48:00.000-05:00what about numbers like you know my name (look up ...what about numbers like you know my name (look up the number) types? i thought they had a faint tang of geoffrey boycott speak, no?

but generally, yeah. they were all trying to be elvis back then.Space Barhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08251329008160756254noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14701409.post-61531310813054628132008-11-03T07:39:00.000-05:002008-11-03T07:39:00.000-05:00Rahul: I know what you mean. Lennon's spoken-voice Liverpudlian accent was so totally different from his singing, it sounded like a different person. As many people noted last year, that was Syd Barrett's major contribution -- to Englishify rock'n'roll. And Ian Anderson took it further.Rahul Siddharthanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04809667965184094636noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14701409.post-47469121441699403402008-11-02T08:25:00.000-05:002008-11-02T08:25:00.000-05:00Yeah let's hear Robert Burns sing "Helter Skelter"...Yeah let's hear Robert Burns sing "Helter Skelter"kmhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16040339235134145847noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14701409.post-71699361276738876552008-11-02T08:20:00.000-05:002008-11-02T08:20:00.000-05:00heh! *though I have to admit a good scots accent i...heh!

*though I have to admit a good scots accent is a thing of beauty*Space Barhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08251329008160756254noreply@blogger.com
