Funnyman Fyodor

"In despair, there are the most intense enjoyments, especially when one is very acutely conscious of the hopelessness of one's position." -- Fyodor Dostoyevsky

So the next time I am in a brand-new car that's skidding wildly out of control on an icy road, I will try to laugh my ass off.

you'd have to be acutely conscious not of your position per se, but, more precisely, of the hopelessness of your position. if you're trying to control the car, you're still in the throes of hope, and hence laughing your ass off will only get you spanked upside the head by the missus. i'd say hold off on the laughing act until you're being devoured half-frozen by the wolfinkies.

That's been known to happen before. Though never while I was being devoured by "wolfinkies". And that's one cool coinage, btw. If I ever write a superhero comic, do I have your permission to use that name for an part-rabid wolf, part-labrador character (a slightly schizo 4-legged sidekick to our superhero)

all yours, buddy. (full disclosure section: what i was *really* angling for was "wolfinskies", and you can have that too.)

skidding cars induce panic, when you dont wish to get up from your bed in the morning , thats despair.

I think despair is something that persists and stays, if you are skidding the car all the times and you are hopeless that you will ever have a good drive, its something good enough to despair. The analysis why you are constantly doing it, may give you most intense enjoyments ;)
